Long-Period Variables: Pulsations
Scientific paper
Supergiant and AGB LPVs are investigated by calculating both their evolution and pulsations. The fundamental mode is thought to be the most possible pulsation mode for supergiant LPVs, and the first overtone for AGB LPV. The mixing length and mass loss may result in some effects on the pulsations. A very large mass loss rate is demanded in the late stage of intermediate mass stellar evolution, however, the mass loss rate may not be quite large in the massive stars before their red supergiant phase.
