The Hall-effect mechanism for the MHD instability of the convective flow
in the magnetosphere is discussed. The Ohmic conductivity of the
magnetospheric plasma is estimated to be approximately 3000/sec, an
estimate which is of use in the numerical simulation of the convective
flow.
