The center of gravity (COG) is an algorithm of very large use for position measurements. For this, it is very important to have a set of well established properties to estimate its error and to project a safe set of improvements. The approach will show the origin of its error in position reconstruction, and it allows to define an ideal detector free of the COG error for any signal distribution.
