A silica aerogel Cerenkov radiator with a refractive index of 1.06 has
been flown in a balloon borne cosmic ray telescope. Clear separation of
the elements in the iron group was achieved even at high energies. No
detectable scintillation component was found. Some optical properties of
the silica aerogel used in this flight are presented.
