The propagation of waves at frequencies ranging from the electron to ion gyrofrequencies in the magnetosphere and upper ionosphere is analyzed. The existence of some specific types of ray trajectories at frequencies below the lower hybrid frequency, owing to the presence of a lower-hybrid gradient directed along the geomagnetic field, is demonstrated.
