The Large Electron Positron (LEP) e+e- collider entered a new phase in Fall 1995 when center of mass energies for 130 GeV were achieved for the first time. Since then, the energy and luminosity of LEP has steadily increased leading to the observation of new phenomena predicted by the standard model and improved sensitivity for physics beyond the standard model. This article reviews the results for the first full year of LEP II and the future prospects between now and the year 2000.
