The technique devised for performing direct measurements of the physical and mechanical properties of the Venus soil from the Venera 13 and 14 probes is described. Preliminary results on the load-bearing capacity of Venus soil are examined. It is also shown that the specific electrical resistance (SER) of the soil at the Venera 13 and 14 landing sites differs substantially from the SER of basalt samples at temperatures close to the temperature of the Venus atmosphere.
