A gamma spectrometer with a coaxial Ge(Li) drift detector, which was used to study the radioactivity of Luna-24 lunar soil samples, is described, and levels of U, Th, (radioactive) K, Na-22, and Co-60 are reported. A gamma spectrum of the Mare Crisium soil is presented. The implications of the data for estimating cosmic ray intensities are considered.
