We study preheating after inflation with nonminimally coupled scalar fields in two different models. One is the chaotic inflationary scenario in the presence of a scalar field χ coupled to a spacetime curvature R (1/2ξRχ2) as well as to the inflaton ɸ (1/2g2ɸ2χ2). While the χ particle production can be assisted by nonminimal coupling for small g, we typically require rather large coupling ξ greater than unity for an efficient resonance. On the other hand, in the higher-curvature inflationary model with a nonminimally coupled scalar field, the particle production is found to be strong even if ξ is of order unity. This is due to the fact that the scalar curvature in the higher-curvature model decreases slower relative to the massive inflationary scenario.
