Scientific paper

The paper considers the design and operational characteristics of the MPP-1 precision stationary proton-magnetometer intended for the measurement of the total vector of the geomagnetic field at any point of the globe. An analysis is presented of principal error sources and means for eliminating them are discussed; a method for the direct calibration of the sensitivity and accuracy of the magnetometer is described. In performance testing, the majority of measurements were performed with a dispersion of plus or minus 0.1 gamma; a dispersion of plus or minus 0.2 gamma was not exceeded.
