The role of the space exploration programs of the past 25 yr in introductory physics at the secondary level is discussed. The basic mechanics of space flight, the construction of a space station using the Shuttle, and programs planned for the future, such as the Hubble Space Telescope, are presented. Exercises based on video tapes of launches and landings are described. A list of source material for teachers is included.
