We have developed a seven-year data base (2000-2006) of Poynting flux observations from the DMSP F-15 satellite. The satellite orbits in 09-21 LT meridian and often cuts through the cusp on the northern hemisphere dayside. In the vicinity of the cusp the Poynting flux values are often enhanced by a factor of 2-10 compared to surrounding regions. The enhanced energy deposition in this region is consistent with recent reports of enhanced neutral density in the vicinity of the cusp and with data assimilation results that show heating in a longitudinal swath across the high-latitude dayside region [Crowley et al., 2010]. We find particular enhancements during intervals of large IMF By and high speed flow in the solar wind. We provide a statistical view of the cusp region energization based on distributions of magnetic field perturbations and ion drift measurements.
