An explanation of the recently observed periodic structure of the large-scale distribution of galaxies is proposed as a manifestation of the validity of classical wave field theory applied to cosmology. The periodic wave structure of energy density distribution provided by the eigensolutions of the field equations, in an inflationary model of the universe, may provide, in fact, the same periodic structure as the observed one.
