Various satellite laser ranging network configurations proposed for monitoring crustal motions in the Eastern Mediterranean are confronted with current geophysical hypotheses concerning these motions. A first order network design as an input to the development of a dedicated measurement strategy, which takes into account constraints such as imposed by the availability of equipment are discussed.
