Over 3000 whistlers recorded at four New Zealand stations between invariant latitudes of 47 and 80 deg have been analyzed by whistler extrapolation to determine the equatorial L-value of ducts. The whistler ducts are found to occur just inside the plasmapause throughout most of the day but do not follow the reported plasmapause bulge in the evening. All this time the ducts follow more closely the position of the plasmapause at low altitudes.
