Ions in the 20-40 keV and electrons in the 15-30 keV range are studied to examine the effect of lithium releases on the solar wind. Electrostatic analyzers are utilized to measure the three-dimensional distribution functions of ions and electrons from the September 11 and 20, 1984 Li releases. The computed plasma parameters for the two Li releases, which include electron and ion densities, bulk flow speed of ions, electron temperature, and the magnetic field strength are described; the Li releases cause the appearance of large densities of low energy ions and heated electrons. The occurrence of shock crossings in the upstream region or reflected solar wind ions are not observed. The identification of the low-energy ions and the development of Li beam densities are examined. The relation between Li ion acceleration and the angular width of the beam is analyzed. The causes of the electron heating within the magnetic cavity and compressed field region are investigated.
