The characteristics of planar motions of a viscoelastic body in a central Newtonial gravitational field are examined, assuming that elastic oscillations can only be excited along one of the body-fixed axes and using Rayleigh function to describe the dissipative forces. The quasi-steady mode of body motion on a circular orbit is investigated, and the relative-equilibrium positions and their stability are determined. Excentricity oscillations of the body on a weakly elliptical orbit are considered for both the resonance and nonresonance cases.
