The formation sites of 24 open clusters are determined in the framework of an axisymmetric model of the Galaxy in which the spiral arms are considered to be quasi-stable spiral structures with a single density-wave pattern and a constant rotation speed. The present positions and space velocities of the open clusters are discussed, the cluster ages are established by a modified method of isochrones, and orbital computations are outlined for determining the formation sites. The results obtained indicate that the formation sites of moderately old open clusters are located within the spiral arms, thus reflecting the spiral structure as obtained from other spiral tracers. Two angular rotation speeds for the spiral structure are derived which give equally good fits to the data and close correlations between the formation sites and the spiral arms as described according to the predictions of density-wave theory.
