Theoretical investigations of pitch-angle diffusion of charged particles in the ionosphere presuppose uniformity of magnetic field strength at the conjugate points, i.e., uniformity of particle loss cones. This paper investigates pitch-angle diffusion in the case of asymmetrical loss cones. Electron precipitation data from auroral-zone stations in Alaska and Scandinavia demonstrate a time dependence of precipitation which is correlated with local differences in magnetic field strength.
