Observations of the Pi 2 polarization parameters at the two low-latitude stations of the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory Magnetometer Network are presented. It is shown that inside the substorm current wedge the parameters are similar to the midlatitude parameters at the same longitude, making low-latitude Pi 2 pulsations good indicators of the center of the substorm current pattern. Outside the wedge both polarization azimuth and sense of polarization tend to differ from the midlatitude observations. The azimuth differences are partly explained by the substorm current wedge signature being more extended at low latitudes. The change in sense of polarization remains unexplained.
