The velocities of longitudinal and shear waves, and the density and compressibility of heterogeneous media were determined in the interval of fusible filler melting (softening) at pressures to 16 kbar. A high-pressure vessel of cylinder-piston type with outer heating was used. Sharp changes in elastic wave velocities were observed in the initial and final stages of the filler melting (solidification) process. The phenomenon of a sharp structure rearrangement and redistribution of stresses in a two-phase media was determined at certain values of thermodynamic parameters. The results of these experiments are discussed in relation to problems of the physics of earthquake generation processes, the nature of the low-velocity zone, and magma segregation.
