The effect of climatic conditions on the air content of polar ice is investigated by analyzing ice from 16 different sites, 14 of which are in Antarctica, one in Greenland, and one in the Yukon Territories (Canada). It is shown that the air content (V) in ice can be expressed as a function of the atmospheric pressure, temperature, and pore volume of ice (Vi) at air isolation. It is shown that the value of Vi increases with temperature, but that it is not dependent on the snow accumulation rate.
