Luminescence with high circular polarization was observed in the InGaAs-AlGaAs strained layer superlattice which was designed as a spin polarized electron source. The maximum luminescence polarization of 65% was obtained around 1.60 eV which corresponded to the lowest band gap. The dependence of luminescence polarization on the excitation photon energy reflected the valence band structure split by the internal strain and the quantum confinement effect. The spin polarization of conduction band electrons at the instant of excitation was found to be 94% from the lifetime and the spin relaxation time measured by the time-resolved luminescence measurement. .
