Recent observational data seem to favor models of structure formation with adiabatic Gaussian initial fluctuations1. It is however worth recalling that topological defects may form during the history of the universe. Therefore, although they may not be the main origin for large scale structures and for the CMB anisotropies, relics of topological defects are most likely to exist.
