Membranes, Bilayers, And Vesicles, Biomolecules: Structure And Physical Properties

Scientific paper

Nitroacetate cellulose ultra filters impregnated with lipids or their derivatives could be effectively used as analogues of natural membranes. In this way some of their important properties can be successfully imitated. The model systems thus obtained give opportunity for investigation of different aspects of cell membrane behavior. Among these are stability, phase transitions as well as the interaction with substances of biological relevance. In the present work attention is drawn to the alteration of basic features of biomimetic membranes (BMM) during the lipid phase transitions in the impregnated filters. The electrochemical impedance analysis is used for that purpose.
