Performance
Scientific paper
The Advanced Camera for Surveys has three different cameras, each of which is optimized for a specific set of science goals. Two of the three cameras employ CCD detectors. The Wide Field Camera (WFC) focal plane is a mosaic of two SITe 2048 x 4096 pixel CCDs optimized for the V and I band. The High Resolution Camera (HRC) employs a SITe 1024x1024 CCD optimized in the near-UV. We summarize the physical properties of the detectors and describe their performance on orbit in terms of read noise, dark rate, quantum efficiency, and charge transfer efficiency. We will also compare the measured performance with prelaunch data. This work was supported by a NASA contract and a NASA grant.
