The recent results of direct search experiments for dark matter particles (DMPs) have been discussed by many authors in terms of numerous, quite disparate, theoretical models. Here, after some general considerations related to the possible distributions of DMPs in the galactic halo, the discussion is focussed on a few models: inelastic dark matter, mirror dark matter and relic neutralinos.
