Particle acceleration plays an important role in many astrophysical systems and, as we will discuss, is controversial in the cusp diamagnetic cavities. There have been several acceleration processes suggested for this region. One of them implies acceleration on the quasi-parallel bowshock that is magnetically connected to the cusp region, others assume local acceleration that we will discuss in the following. Using testparticle simulations and a local MHD simulation of the diamagnetic cavities we found efficient acceleration of the ions and electrons in the cavity region. In correlation with the trapping of the particles and the conservation of the magnetic momentum we discuss particle dynamics for the case of a southward IMF and compare the results with particle acceleration for the case of northward IMF.
