We investigate pair creation by a photon and the time-reversed process in a spatially flat Robertson-Walker universe. The expansion law C(η) = Cin + exp(2bη) provides a time-asymmetric background gravitational field. The explicit evaluation of the total decay probabilities for electron-positron pairs which are non-relativistic at Compton time and soft photons yields a violation of CPT invariance such that the time-reversed (annihilation) process is the more effective one. This CPT non-invariance takes place even though the interaction term of the lagrangian density of quantum electrodynamics does not additionally break the conformal symmetry of the theory.
