The results of a seismic refraction/wide-angle reflection survey in the Hercynian of Galicia (northwest Spain) are presented. Two out of the five seismic refraction profiles obtained in 1982 are discussed in detail and the results are integrated with those already published to give a three-dimensional view of the crust. The crust is structured in three layers of varying thickness, resulting in a Moho depth of 26-27 km near the Atlantic Ocean and 32 km in central Galicia. The velocity in both the lower crust and the upper mantle are higher in central Galicia (6.7-6.9 8.3 km s-1) than close to the Atlantic coast (6.6-6.8 8.0 km s-1). The obtained results show remarkable similarities with those reported for other areas of the Hercynian crust in western Europe.
