We propose a systematic survey of dense molecular cores in the Chamaeleon I cloud. Our aim is to assess the mass and energetics of star-forming cores and locate likely sites of future star formation. Following our successful mapping observations of the Ced 110 region in 2004, we will target additional regions based on SEST H13CO+ mapping by us and C18O mapping by Haikala et al. (2005). The project will consist of pointed spectra at 88-94 GHz towards C18O peaks, followed by detailed mapping of up to two 5' x 5' regions with strong N2H+ emission. Mapping will be performed at 88-94 GHz and 108-115 GHz, to delineate both dense cores and outflow material. We request about 50 hours of UNSW time.
