Résumé La distinction entre oscillations propres et oscillations forcées d'une grandeur physique déterminée ne peut se faire clairement que si le domaine spatial auquel on l'applique est bien déterminé. Dans le cas qui nous occupe la grandeur physique considérée est le champ magnétique terrestre et le domaine que nous retenons pour notre définition est limité, conventionnellement, par la magnetopause. En étudiant les modes de transfert d'énergie à travers cette surface, nous examinons l'incidence du fait, nouvellement connu, que ce transfert doit se faire par l'intermédiaire d'une couche de transition turbulente. Les modes mécaniques, puis magnétiques, de ce transfert, sont examinés. La discussion met en lumière des inerties differentes pour les diverses oscillations hydromagnétiques qui peuvent ainsi être excitées. A discrimination between free and forced oscillations of a given physical quantity--here, the geomagnetic field--cannot have a definite meaning if the space domain to which it is applied is not well defined. In the present case this domain is bounded, conventionally, by the magnetopause. In studying different modes of energy transfer across this surface we have examined the importance of the fact, only recently appreciated, that this transfer takes place through an intermediate turbulent layer. Mechanical and electrical modes of transfer are examined. The discussion demonstrates that different [`]inertias' must be assigned to the different hydromagnetic oscillations which can be excited in this way.
