The origin of young EAS with energies of 1-10 PeV is examined in the light of recent observations. It is shown that young EAS with energies of 1-10 PeV at the mountain level, differences in the slope of EAS spectra with respect to the number of particles and electromagnetic energy, and the observed increase in electromagnetic energy per electron in EAS have the same origin and are related to the usual longitudinal evolution of EAS.
