The four-spacecraft Cluster mission provides new and better possibilities to investigate the motion and orientation of plasma boundaries. In this talk we present results obtained from Cluster observations of the dayside magnetopause. The results show that both the motion, thickness, current density and structure of the magnetopause can be highly variable, and often surpringsingly uncorrelated with solar wind conditions. We also present some of the new single- and multispacecraft methods for discontinuity analysis that has been used together with Cluster measurements. In particular, we show how non-uniform thickness and non-constant motion of boundaries can be addressed with four-spacecraft methods, and how higher order plasma moments can be used for discontinuity analysis.
