The results of an analysis of opportunities for lunar missions involving LEO-low lunar orbit transfers is presented. A European option using the Ariane 5 for lunar missions with an optimized cryogenic transfer vehicle is discussed. A completely new option involving the use of a ballistic SSTO vehicle for lunar landing missions after refueling in LEO is addressed.
