Some results obtained by Dickmanns to the orbital transfer problem are reviewed with particular reference to the Hohmann coplanar orbital transfer and three-dimensional orbital transfers aided by the atmosphere. Minimum-impulse coplanar transfers are discussed, along with the effect of finite thrust and aerodynamic heating on the synergetic plane change maneuver.
