We have searched the SDSS spectroscopic data for objects with the approximately featureless optical spectra characteristic of the BL Lac subclass of AGN and compiled a sample of about 650 objects. We discuss the properties of objects discovered in this manner and describe an efficient method based on proper motions and optical colors for separating DC (continuum) white dwarfs (about 60% of the sample) and true BL Lacs (about 40%).
