Theoretical considerations have suggested the possibility of obtaining high spatial resolution measurements of vertical profiles of the refractive index structure parameter C(n)-squared, using spatially filtered stellar scintillation and wind velocity profiles derived from a clean-air Doppler radar. The present experimental investigation of this theoretical possibility has attempted to ascertain the effect of such realistic factors as the uncertainties arising from the variability of the wind fields above the boundary layer; it is found that this variability renders the use of a nonzero-sum spatial filter very difficult.
