The possibilities of using image processing to navigate in the vicinity
of Mars are considered. The satellite image contribution to the Phobos
ephemeris is examined, and Phobos navigation accomplished by the Soviet
Phobos project is reviewed. It is concluded that image processing can
significantly help to improve ephemeris.
