The Faraday rotation of radiation in the near infrared, visible and near
ultraviolet propagated in the earth's atmosphere is calculated. Account
is taken of the variation of concentration and temperature with
altitude. It is shown that the rotation takes place primarily in the
first 130,000 ft above the earth.
