Complex multilayered configurations with narrow passbands and high rejection characteristics are presently considered as candidates able to satisfy demultiplexing performance requirements in optical telecommunications systems. Such novel oxide optics deposition methods as ion-assisted deposition are presently found to yield products which circumvent the more conventional vaccum evaporation/condensation methods' problems with refractive index variations between atmospheric and space environment conditions.
