ACCORDING to the accounts so far published, it would appear that the
epicentrum of this earthquake was situated under the Sea of Marmora, at
a short distance from San Stefano; but, for the purpose of this paper,
no very sensible error will be introduced by assuming it to coincide
with Constantinople itself.
