The paper is concerned with an external variant of the problem of three fixed centers where the geopotential is approximated by a force function. Level surfaces corresponding to the force function are investigated, and a formula is derived for the gravity distribution at a level surface whose equatorial radius is equal to the mean equatorial radius of the earth. The results obtained are in good agreement with the data for the normal terrestrial field.
