Scientific paper

An approximate method for the calculation of the scalar derivative matrix of Soboliev (1957) is developed for the vector problem of the scattering and true absorption of polarized light in a molecular medium. A recursive formula for the calculation of matrix elements is obtained and shown to be in good agreement with the results of more exact calculations based on a generalization of the method of invariant embedding.
