Since 1974, efforts to measure changes in microseismicity due to impounding and changes in the behaviour of bed rock in and around the Takase Dam site has been continuing by using a microseismometer network and tiltmeter array.
By following the observation results of the microearthquake network, no earthquakes larger than 2.8 in magnitude occurred in or around the site in the 4.5 years since the start of impounding. However, during the impounding stage of the dam when the water level increased steeply, very shallow microearthquake activity showed a tendency to become temporarily active in and around the site.
The tilts toward the dam tend to increase with the progress of embankment. However, during impounding, those tilts showed a tendency to recover to the initial state.
