The investigation considered is concerned with a possible explanation for certain difficulties regarding measured and expected auroral O(+) density data. Attention is given to results obtained by Donahue et al. (1970). It is found that agreement between theoretical data and experimental data is obtained by taking into account also O2(++) ions, which, for the ion mass spectrometer used in various experiments, are undistinguishable from the O(+) ion.
