Hydrogen, Helium, Materials At High Pressures

Scientific paper

The purpose of this paper is to obtain an exact equation of state for hydrogen and helium at T= 0 K. For the derivation of the energy-molar volume function a cellular method is applied using the boundary condition (delta rho/delta r)r = =r=rs=0, where rho and rs are the electron density and the radius of the elementar sphere, respectively. This condition may be satisfied by (delta psi/delta r)r=rs=0 or psi(rs)=0. Both cases are examined. The modification of the Balmer series as a function of density is derived, and a qualitative indication suggesting the presence of a pressure ionization obtained, which may be of interest for geophysics too.
