Using the f-plots obtained at Chungli (24.95 N, 121.23 E) from 1965 to 1969 the characteristic variations of the forenoon bite-out of foF2 were studied. The seasonal and solar-cycle variations of the occurrence of bite-out and bite-out index were found. The bite-out occurs not only on magnetically disturbed days but also on magnetically quiet days. There is, however, a marked tendency for the bite-out to occur on the first storm day. Unusual development of the equatorial anomaly in foF2 was found during the development of the bite-out.
