The interaction of a gravitational wave with an electromagnetic detector is investigated theoretically. A Fermi normal coordinate system is attached to the detector in a natural manner; the metric tensor is derived in this system up to the first order in h(mu nu); and the Maxwell equations in the field of the wave are linearized to obtain the correct form of the perturbation current.
