There are many who believe that the observed molecular homochirality in all living things is actually required for life and must have preceeded it in the prebiotic medium. While the sign of the homochirality could be the result of chance, it is also possible that it is produced by the weak interactions being chirally broken. We consider three stages of this problem: (1) Fundamental interactions that may cause asymmetries; (2) Amplification and experimental tests of the effects through bifurcation processes; and (3) The possible influence of these effects on prebiotic molecules in pre-solar system (dense) molecular clouds. We critically review the experimental evidence for chiral-symmetry-breaking effects and discuss a possible new round of experiments using powerful GaAs polarized RF electron guns.
